Proverbs 10

LXX 1 A wise son makes father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother. NIV 1 The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother. LXX 2 Treasures shall not profit the lawless: but righteousness shall deliver from death. NIV 2 Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death. LXX 3 The Lord will not famish a righteous soul: but he will overthrow the life of the ungodly. NIV 3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. LXX 4 Poverty brings a man low: but the hands of the vigorous make rich. A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant. NIV 4 Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. LXX 5 A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest. NIV 5 He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. LXX 6 The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly. NIV 6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked. LXX 7 The memory of the just is praised; but the name of the ungodly is extinguished. NIV 7 The name of the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot. LXX 8 A wise man in heart will receive commandments; but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness. NIV 8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. LXX 9 He that walks simply, walks confidently; but he that perverts his ways shall be known. NIV 9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out. LXX 10 He that winks with his eyes deceitfully, procures griefs for men; but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker. NIV 10 Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin. LXX 11 a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man; but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly. NIV 11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. LXX 12 Hatred stirs up strife; but affection covers all that do not love strife. NIV 12 Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. LXX 13 He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod. NIV 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense. LXX 14 The wise will hide discretion; but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin. NIV 14 The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin. LXX 15 The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly. NIV 15 The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. LXX 16 The works of the righteous produce life; but the fruits of the ungodly sins. NIV 16 The wages of the righteous is life, but the earnings of the wicked are sin and death. LXX 17 Instruction keeps the right ways of life; but instruction unchastened goes astray. NIV 17 Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. LXX 18 Righteous lips cover enmity; but they that utter railings are most foolish. NIV 18 Whoever conceals hatred with lying lips and spreads slander is a fool. LXX 19 By a multitude of words thou shalt not escape sin; but if thou refrain thy lips thou wilt be prudent. NIV 19 Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues. LXX 20 The tongue of the just is tried silver; but the heart of the ungodly shall fail. NIV 20 The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value. LXX 21 The lips of the righteous know sublime : but the foolish die in want. NIV 21 The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense. LXX 22 The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches , and grief of heart shall not be added to . NIV 22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it. LXX 23 A fool does mischief in sport; but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man. NIV 23 A fool finds pleasure in wicked schemes, but a person of understanding delights in wisdom. LXX 24 The ungodly is engulphed in destruction; but the desire of the righteous is acceptable. NIV 24 What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. LXX 25 When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes for ever. NIV 25 When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. LXX 26 As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practise it. NIV 26 As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so are sluggards to those who send them. LXX 27 The fear of the Lord adds of days: but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened. NIV 27 The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. LXX 28 Joy rests long with the righteous: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish. NIV 28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. LXX 29 The fear of the Lord is a strong hold of the saints: but ruin to them that work wickedness. NIV 29 The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. LXX 30 The righteous shall never fail: but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth. NIV 30 The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land. LXX 31 The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom: but the tongue of the unjust shall perish. NIV 31 From the mouth of the righteous comes the fruit of wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be silenced. LXX 32 The lips of just men drop grace: but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse. NIV 32 The lips of the righteous know what finds favor, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
