New Living Translation NLT
Hebrew Names Version HNV
1 My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands.
1
My son, if you will receive my words, And store up my mitzvot within you;
2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
2
So as to turn your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
3
Yes, if you call out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding;
4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.
4
If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures:
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.
5
Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
6
For the LORD gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.
7
He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;
8 He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
8
That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his holy ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.
9
Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.
10
For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.
11
Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you,
12 Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted.
12
To deliver you from the way of evil, From the men who speak perverse things;
13 These men turn from the right way to walk down dark paths.
13
Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;
14 They take pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil.
14
Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;
15 Their actions are crooked, and their ways are wrong.
15
Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:
16 Wisdom will save you from the immoral woman, from the seductive words of the promiscuous woman.
16
To deliver you from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner who flatters with her words;
17 She has abandoned her husband and ignores the covenant she made before God.
17
Who forsakes the friend of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God:
18 Entering her house leads to death; it is the road to the grave.
18
For her house leads down to death, Her paths to the dead.
19 The man who visits her is doomed. He will never reach the paths of life.
19
None who go to her return again, Neither do they attain to the paths of life:
20 Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous.
20
That you may walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous.
21 For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.
21
For the upright will dwell in the land. The perfect will remain in it.
22 But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted.
22
But the wicked will be cut off from the land. The treacherous will be rooted out of it.
