Proverbs 24

New International Version NIV

1 Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company;

2 for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.

3 By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;

4 through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

5 The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength.

6 Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.

7 Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.

8 Whoever plots evil will be known as a schemer.

9 The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.

10 If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!

11 Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.

12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?

13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.

14 Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place;

16 for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.

17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,

18 or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.

19 Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked,

20 for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

21 Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials,

22 for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring?

23 These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judging is not good:

24 Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.

25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.

26 An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

27 Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.

28 Do not testify against your neighbor without cause— would you use your lips to mislead?

29 Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”

30 I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;

31 thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.

32 I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw:

33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—

34 and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

1 No envidies a los malvados,ni procures su compañía;

2 porque en su corazón traman violencia,y no hablan más que de cometer fechorías.

3 Con sabiduría se construye la casa;con inteligencia se echan los cimientos.

4 Con buen juicio se llenan sus cuartosde bellos y extraordinarios tesoros.

5 El que es sabio tiene gran poder,y el que es entendido aumenta su fuerza.

6 La guerra se hace con buena estrategia;la victoria se alcanza con muchos consejeros.

7 La sabiduría no está al alcance del necio,que en la asamblea del pueblo nada tiene que decir.

8 Al que hace planes malvadoslo llamarán intrigante.

9 Las intrigas del necio son pecado,y todos aborrecen a los insolentes.

10 Si en el día de la aflicción te desanimas,muy limitada es tu fortaleza.

11 Rescata a los que van rumbo a la muerte;detén a los que a tumbos avanzan al suplicio.

12 Pues aunque digas, «Yo no lo sabía»,¿no habrá de darse cuenta el que pesa los corazones?¿No habrá de saberlo el que vigila tu vida?¡Él le paga a cada uno según sus acciones!

13 Come la miel, hijo mío, que es deliciosa;dulce al paladar es la miel del panal.

14 Así de dulce sea la sabiduría a tu alma;si das con ella, tendrás buen futuro;tendrás una esperanza que no será destruida.

15 No aceches cual malvado la casa del justo,ni arrases el lugar donde habita;

16 porque siete veces podrá caer el justo,pero otras tantas se levantará;los malvados, en cambio,se hundirán en la desgracia.

17 No te alegres cuando caiga tu enemigo,ni se regocije tu corazón ante su desgracia,

18 no sea que el SEÑOR lo vea y no lo apruebe,y aparte de él su enojo.

19 No te alteres por causa de los malvados,ni sientas envidia de los impíos,

20 porque el malvado no tiene porvenir;¡la lámpara del impío se apagará!

21 Hijo mío, teme al SEÑOR y honra al rey,y no te juntes con los rebeldes,

22 porque de los dos recibirás un castigo repentino¡y quién sabe qué calamidades sobrevendrán!

23 También estos son dichos de los sabios:No es correcto ser parcial en el juicio.

24 Maldecirán los pueblos, y despreciarán las naciones,a quien declare inocente al culpable.

25 Pero bien vistos serán, y bendecidos,los que condenen al culpable.

26 Una respuesta sinceraes como un beso en los labios.

27 Prepara primero tus faenas de cultivoy ten listos tus campos para la siembra;después de eso, construye tu casa.

28 No testifiques sin razón contra tu prójimo,ni mientas con tus labios.

29 No digas: «Le haré lo mismo que me hizo;le pagaré con la misma moneda».

30 Pasé por el campo del perezoso,por la viña del falto de juicio.

31 Había espinas por todas partes;la hierba cubría el terreno,y el lindero de piedras estaba en ruinas.

32 Guardé en mi corazón lo observado,y de lo visto saqué una lección:

33 Un corto sueño, una breve siesta,un pequeño descanso, cruzado de brazos…

34 ¡y te asaltará la pobreza como un bandido,y la escasez, como un hombre armado!
