The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance. This man’s utterance to Ithiel: “I am weary, God, but I can prevail.
2 Zhè rén duì Yǐtiĕ hé Wūjiǎ shuō , wǒ bǐ zhòngrén gèng chún bèn , yĕ méiyǒu rén de cōngming .

Surely I am only a brute, not a man; I do not have human understanding.
3 Wǒ méiyǒu xué hǎo zhìhuì . yĕ bù rènshi zhì shèng zhĕ .

I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.
4 Shuí shēng tiān yòu jiàng xià lái . shuí jù fēng zaì zhǎng zhōng . shuí bāo shuǐ zaì yīfu lǐ . shuí lìdéng dì de sì jí . tā míng jiào shénme . tā érzi jiào míng jiào shénme . nǐ zhīdào ma .

Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know!
5 Shén de yányǔ , jù jù dōu shì liàn jìng de , tóukào tāde , tā biàn zuò tāmende dùnpái .

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6 Tāde yányǔ , nǐ bùkĕ jiā tiān . kǒngpà tā zébeì nǐ , nǐ jiù xiǎn wèi shuōhuǎng yán de .

Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
7 Wǒ qiú nǐ liǎng jiàn shì , zaì wǒ wèi sǐ zhī xiān , búyào bù cìgĕi wǒ .

“Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die:
8 Qiú nǐ shǐ xūjiǎ hé huǎng yán yuǎn lí wǒ . shǐ wǒ yĕ bù pínqióng , yĕ bù fùzú , cìgĕi wǒ xū yòng de yǐnshí .

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.
9 Kǒngpà wǒ bǎozú bù rèn nǐ , shuō , Yēhéhuá shì shuí ne . yòu kǒngpà wǒ pínqióng jiù tōuqiè , yǐzhì xièdú wǒ shén de míng .

Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
10 Nǐ búyào xiàng zhǔrén chán bàng púrén . kǒngpà tā zhòuzǔ nǐ , nǐ biàn suàn wèi yǒu zuì .

“Do not slander a servant to their master, or they will curse you, and you will pay for it.
11 Yǒu yī zōng rén , ( zōng yuánwén zuò daì xià tóng ) zhòuzǔ fùqin , bù gĕi mǔqin zhùfú .

“There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers;
12 Yǒu yī zōng rén , zì yǐwéi qīngjié , què méiyǒu xǐ qù zìjǐ de wūhuì .

those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not cleansed of their filth;
13 Yǒu yī zōng rén , yǎnmù hé qí gāo ào , yǎnpí yĕ shì gāo jǔ .

those whose eyes are ever so haughty, whose glances are so disdainful;
14 Yǒu yī zōng rén , yá rú jiàn , chǐ rú dāo , yào tūn miè dì shang de kùnkǔ rén , hé shì jiān de qióngfá rén .

those whose teeth are swords and whose jaws are set with knives to devour the poor from the earth and the needy from among mankind.
15 Mā huáng yǒu liǎng ge nǚér , cháng shuō , gĕi yē gĕi yē . yǒu sān yàng bù zhīzú de , lián bù shuō gòu de gōng yǒu sì yàng .

“The leech has two daughters. ‘Give! Give!’ they cry. “There are three things that are never satisfied, four that never say, ‘Enough!’:
16 Jiù shì yīnjiān , hé shí tāi , jìn shuǐ bùzú de dì , bìng huǒ .

the grave, the barren womb, land, which is never satisfied with water, and fire, which never says, ‘Enough!’
17 Xì xiào fùqin , miǎoshì ér bù tīng cóng mǔqin de , tāde yǎnjing , bì wèi gǔ zhōng de wūyē zhuó chūlai , wèi yīng chú suǒ chī .

“The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures.
18 Wǒ suǒ cè bù tòu de qímiào yǒu sān yàng , lián wǒ suǒ bù zhīdào de gōng yǒu sì yàng .

“There are three things that are too amazing for me, four that I do not understand:
19 Jiù shì yīng zaì kōng zhōng fēi de dào , shé zaì pánshí shang pá de dào , chuán zaì hǎi zhōng xíng de dào , nán yǔ nǚ jiāo hé de dào .

the way of an eagle in the sky, the way of a snake on a rock, the way of a ship on the high seas, and the way of a man with a young woman.
20 Yín fù de dào , yĕ shì zhèyàng , tā chī le bǎ zuǐyī cā , jiù shuō , wǒ méiyǒu xíng è .

“This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth and says, ‘I’ve done nothing wrong.’
21 Shǐ dìzhèn dòng de yǒu sān yàng , lián dì dān bù qǐ de gòng yǒu sì yàng .

“Under three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up:
22 Jiù shì púrén zuò wáng . yú wán rén chī bǎo .

a servant who becomes king, a godless fool who gets plenty to eat,

a contemptible woman who gets married, and a servant who displaces her mistress.

“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise:
25 Mā yǐ shì wúlì zhī leì , què zaì xiàtiān yùbeì liángshi .

Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;
26 Shā pān shì ruǎnfuò zhī leì , què zaì pánshí zhōng zào fáng .

hyraxes are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags;
27 Huángchóng méiyǒu jūnwáng , què fēnduì ér chū .

locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks;
28 Shǒu gōng yòng zhǎo zhuā qiáng , què zhù zaì wánggōng .

a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.
29 Bùxíng wēi wǔ de yǒu sān yàng , lián xíng zǒu wēi wǔ de gòng yǒu sì yàng .

“There are three things that are stately in their stride, four that move with stately bearing:
30 Jiù shì shīzi nǎi bǎi shòu zhōng zuì wèi mĕng liè , wú suǒ duǒbì de .

a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing;
31 Liè gǒu , gōng shānyáng , hé wú rén néng dí de jūnwáng .

a strutting rooster, a he-goat, and a king secure against revolt.
32 Nǐ ruò xíngshì yú wán , zì gāo zì ào , huò shì huaì le è niàn , jiù dāng yòng shǒu wú kǒu .

“If you play the fool and exalt yourself, or if you plan evil, clap your hand over your mouth!
33 Yáo niúnǎi bì chéng nǎi yóu . niǔ bízi bì chū xuè . zhàoyàng , jīdòng nùqì bì qǐ zhēng duān .

For as churning cream produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.”
