Proverbs 31:4-14

MSG 4 "Leaders can't afford to make fools of themselves, gulping wine and swilling beer, NIV 4 It is not for kings, Lemuel— it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, MSG 5 Lest, hung over, they don't know right from wrong, and the people who depend on them are hurt. NIV 5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. MSG 6 Use wine and beer only as sedatives, to kill the pain and dull the ache NIV 6 Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! MSG 7 Of the terminally ill, for whom life is a living death. NIV 7 Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. MSG 8 "Speak up for the people who have no voice, for the rights of all the down-and-outers. NIV 8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. MSG 9 Speak out for justice! Stand up for the poor and destitute!" NIV 9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. MSG 10 A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. NIV 10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. MSG 11 Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it. NIV 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. MSG 12 Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long. NIV 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. MSG 13 She shops around for the best yarns and cottons, and enjoys knitting and sewing. NIV 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. MSG 14 She's like a trading ship that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises. NIV 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
