1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.

Escuchen, hijos, la corrección de un padre;dispónganse a adquirir inteligencia.
2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.

Yo les brindo buenas enseñanzas,así que no abandonen mi instrucción.
3 For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.

Cuando yo era pequeño y vivía con mi padre,cuando era el niño consentido de mi madre,
4 Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.

mi padre me instruyó de esta manera:«Aférrate de corazón a mis palabras;obedece mis mandamientos, y vivirás.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.

Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia;no olvides mis palabras ni te apartes de ellas.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

No abandones nunca a la sabiduría,y ella te protegerá;ámala, y ella te cuidará.
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

La sabiduría es lo primero. ¡Adquiere sabiduría!Por sobre todas las cosas, adquiere discernimiento.
8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.

Estima a la sabiduría, y ella te exaltará;abrázala, y ella te honrará;
9 She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”

10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.

Escucha, hijo mío, acoge mis palabras,y los años de tu vida aumentarán.
11 I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.

Yo te guío por el camino de la sabiduría,te dirijo por sendas de rectitud.
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.

Cuando camines, no encontrarás obstáculos;cuando corras, no tropezarás.
13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.

Aférrate a la instrucción, no la dejes escapar;cuídala bien, que ella es tu vida.
14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.

No sigas la senda de los perversosni vayas por el camino de los malvados.
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.

¡Evita ese camino! ¡No pases por él!¡Aléjate de allí, y sigue de largo!
16 For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.

Los malvados no duermen si no hacen lo malo;pierden el sueño si no hacen que alguien caiga.
17 They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

Su pan es la maldad;su vino, la violencia.
18 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

La senda de los justos se asemejaa los primeros albores de la aurora:su esplendor va en aumentohasta que el día alcanza su plenitud.
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.

Pero el camino de los malvadoses como la más densa oscuridad;¡ni siquiera saben con qué tropiezan!
20 My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words.

Hijo mío, atiende a mis consejos;escucha atentamente lo que digo.
21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;

No pierdas de vista mis palabras;guárdalas muy dentro de tu corazón.
22 for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body.

Ellas dan vida a quienes las hallan;son la salud del cuerpo.
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Por sobre todas las cosas cuida tu corazón,porque de él mana la vida.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Aleja de tu boca la perversidad;aparta de tus labios las palabras corruptas.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.

Pon la mirada en lo que tienes delante;fija la vista en lo que está frente a ti.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

Endereza las sendas por donde andas;allana todos tus caminos.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

No te desvíes ni a diestra ni a siniestra;apártate de la maldad.
