Psalm 107

NLT 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. NIV 1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. NLT 2 Has the LORD redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies. NIV 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story— those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, NLT 3 For he has gathered the exiles from many lands, from east and west, from north and south. NIV 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. NLT 4 Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. NIV 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. NLT 5 Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died. NIV 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. NLT 6 “ LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress. NIV 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. NLT 7 He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live. NIV 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. NLT 8 Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. NIV 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, NLT 9 For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. NIV 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. NLT 10 Some sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery. NIV 10 Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness, prisoners suffering in iron chains, NLT 11 They rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. NIV 11 because they rebelled against God’s commands and despised the plans of the Most High. NLT 12 That is why he broke them with hard labor; they fell, and no one was there to help them. NIV 12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. NLT 13 “ LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NLT 14 He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped their chains. NIV 14 He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains. NLT 15 Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. NIV 15 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, NLT 16 For he broke down their prison gates of bronze; he cut apart their bars of iron. NIV 16 for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron. NLT 17 Some were fools; they rebelled and suffered for their sins. NIV 17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. NLT 18 They couldn’t stand the thought of food, and they were knocking on death’s door. NIV 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. NLT 19 “ LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NLT 20 He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death. NIV 20 He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. NLT 21 Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. NIV 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. NLT 22 Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about his glorious acts. NIV 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy. NLT 23 Some went off to sea in ships, plying the trade routes of the world. NIV 23 Some went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. NLT 24 They, too, observed the LORD ’s power in action, his impressive works on the deepest seas. NIV 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. NLT 25 He spoke, and the winds rose, stirring up the waves. NIV 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. NLT 26 Their ships were tossed to the heavens and plunged again to the depths; the sailors cringed in terror. NIV 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. NLT 27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards and were at their wits’ end. NIV 27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards; they were at their wits’ end. NLT 28 “ LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. NIV 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. NLT 29 He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. NIV 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. NLT 30 What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor! NIV 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. NLT 31 Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. NIV 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind. NLT 32 Let them exalt him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation. NIV 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders. NLT 33 He changes rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry, thirsty land. NIV 33 He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, NLT 34 He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there. NIV 34 and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. NLT 35 But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water. NIV 35 He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs; NLT 36 He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities. NIV 36 there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. NLT 37 They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest their bumper crops. NIV 37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; NLT 38 How he blesses them! They raise large families there, and their herds of livestock increase. NIV 38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish. NLT 39 When they decrease in number and become impoverished through oppression, trouble, and sorrow, NIV 39 Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow; NLT 40 the LORD pours contempt on their princes, causing them to wander in trackless wastelands. NIV 40 he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste. NLT 41 But he rescues the poor from trouble and increases their families like flocks of sheep. NIV 41 But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks. NLT 42 The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are struck silent. NIV 42 The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths. NLT 43 Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the LORD . NIV 43 Let the one who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the LORD.
