Psalm 109

NAS 1 O God of my praise, Do not be silent! NIV 1 My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent, NAS 2 For they have opened the wicked and deceitful mouth against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue. NIV 2 for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues. NAS 3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without cause. NIV 3 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. NAS 4 In return for my love they act as my accusers; But I am in prayer. NIV 4 In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. NAS 5 Thus they have repaid me evil for good And hatred for my love. NIV 5 They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. NAS 6 Appoint a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand. NIV 6 Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. NAS 7 When he is judged, let him come forth guilty, And let his prayer become sin. NIV 7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. NAS 8 Let his days be few; Let another take his office. NIV 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. NAS 9 Let his children be fatherless And his wife a widow. NIV 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. NAS 10 Let his children wander about and beg; And let them seek sustenance far from their ruined homes. NIV 10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. NAS 11 Let the creditor seize all that he has, And let strangers plunder the product of his labor. NIV 11 May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. NAS 12 Let there be none to extend lovingkindness to him, Nor any to be gracious to his fatherless children. NIV 12 May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. NAS 13 Let his posterity be cut off; In a following generation let their name be blotted out. NIV 13 May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. NAS 14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD , And do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out. NIV 14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. NAS 15 Let them be before the LORD continually, That He may cut off their memory from the earth; NIV 15 May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may blot out their name from the earth. NAS 16 Because he did not remember to show lovingkindness, But persecuted the afflicted and needy man, And the despondent in heart, to put them to death. NIV 16 For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted. NAS 17 He also loved cursing, so it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him. NIV 17 He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him. NAS 18 But he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, And it entered into his body like water And like oil into his bones. NIV 18 He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil. NAS 19 Let it be to him as a garment with which he covers himself, And for a belt with which he constantly girds himself. NIV 19 May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him. NAS 20 Let this be the reward of my accusers from the LORD , And of those who speak evil against my soul. NIV 20 May this be the LORD’s payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me. NAS 21 But You, O GOD, the Lord , deal kindly with me for Your name's sake; Because Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me; NIV 21 But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. NAS 22 For I am afflicted and needy, And my heart is wounded within me. NIV 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. NAS 23 I am passing like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like the locust. NIV 23 I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. NAS 24 My knees are weak from fasting, And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness. NIV 24 My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. NAS 25 I also have become a reproach to them; When they see me, they wag their head. NIV 25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. NAS 26 Help me, O LORD my God; Save me according to Your lovingkindness. NIV 26 Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love. NAS 27 And let them know that this is Your hand; You, LORD , have done it. NIV 27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, LORD, have done it. NAS 28 Let them curse, but You bless; When they arise, they shall be ashamed, But Your servant shall be glad. NIV 28 While they curse, may you bless; may those who attack me be put to shame, but may your servant rejoice. NAS 29 Let my accusers be clothed with dishonor, And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe. NIV 29 May my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. NAS 30 With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the LORD ; And in the midst of many I will praise Him. NIV 30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him. NAS 31 For He stands at the right hand of the needy, To save him from those who judge his soul. NIV 31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.
