Psalm 41

RHE 1 (40-1) <Unto the end, a psalm for David himself.> (40-2) Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor: the Lord will deliver him in the evil day. NIV 1 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble. RHE 2 (40-3) The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth: and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. NIV 2 The LORD protects and preserves them— they are counted among the blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. RHE 3 (40-4) The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow: thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness. NIV 3 The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. RHE 4 (40-5) I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee. NIV 4 I said, “Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you.” RHE 5 (40-6) My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish? NIV 5 My enemies say of me in malice, “When will he die and his name perish?” RHE 6 (40-7) And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things: his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose. NIV 6 When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around. RHE 7 (40-8) All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me. NIV 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, RHE 8 (40-9) They determined against me an unjust word: shall he that sleepeth rise again no more? NIV 8 “A vile disease has afflicted him; he will never get up from the place where he lies.” RHE 9 (40-10) For even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me. NIV 9 Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me. RHE 10 (40-11) But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise my up again: and I will requite them. NIV 10 But may you have mercy on me, LORD; raise me up, that I may repay them. RHE 11 (40-12) By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me: because my enemy shall not rejoice over me. NIV 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. RHE 12 (40-13) But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence: and hast established me in thy sight for ever. NIV 12 Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. RHE 13 (40-14) Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it. NIV 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
