Psalm 69

GNT 1 Save me, O God! The water is up to my neck; NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. GNT 2 I am sinking in deep mud, and there is no solid ground; I am out in deep water, and the waves are about to drown me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. GNT 3 I am worn out from calling for help, and my throat is aching. I have strained my eyes, looking for your help. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. GNT 4 Those who hate me for no reason are more numerous than the hairs of my head. My enemies tell lies against me; they are strong and want to kill me. They made me give back things I did not steal. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. GNT 5 My sins, O God, are not hidden from you; you know how foolish I have been. NIV 5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. GNT 6 Don't let me bring shame on those who trust in you, Sovereign Lord Almighty! Don't let me bring disgrace to those who worship you, O God of Israel! NIV 6 Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. GNT 7 It is for your sake that I have been insulted and that I am covered with shame. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. GNT 8 I am like a stranger to my relatives, like a foreigner to my family. NIV 8 I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children; GNT 9 My devotion to your Temple burns in me like a fire; the insults which are hurled at you fall on me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. GNT 10 I humble myself by fasting, and people insult me; NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; GNT 11 I dress myself in clothes of mourning, and they laugh at me. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. GNT 12 They talk about me in the streets, and drunkards make up songs about me. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. GNT 13 But as for me, I will pray to you, Lord; answer me, God, at a time you choose. Answer me because of your great love, because you keep your promise to save. NIV 13 But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. GNT 14 Save me from sinking in the mud; keep me safe from my enemies, safe from the deep water. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. GNT 15 Don't let the flood come over me; don't let me drown in the depths or sink into the grave. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. GNT 16 Answer me, Lord, in the goodness of your constant love; in your great compassion turn to me! NIV 16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. GNT 17 Don't hide yourself from your servant; I am in great trouble - answer me now! NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. GNT 18 Come to me and save me; rescue me from my enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes. GNT 19 You know how I am insulted, how I am disgraced and dishonored; you see all my enemies. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. GNT 20 Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. I had hoped for sympathy, but there was none; for comfort, but I found none. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. GNT 21 When I was hungry, they gave me poison; when I was thirsty, they offered me vinegar. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. GNT 22 May their banquets cause their ruin; may their sacred feasts cause their downfall. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. GNT 23 Strike them with blindness! Make their backs always weak! NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. GNT 24 Pour out your anger on them; let your indignation overtake them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. GNT 25 May their camps be left deserted; may no one be left alive in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. GNT 26 They persecute those whom you have punished; they talk about the sufferings of those you have wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. GNT 27 Keep a record of all their sins; don't let them have any part in your salvation. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. GNT 28 May their names be erased from the book of the living; may they not be included in the list of your people. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. GNT 29 But I am in pain and despair; lift me up, O God, and save me! NIV 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me. GNT 30 I will praise God with a song; I will proclaim his greatness by giving him thanks. NIV 30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. GNT 31 This will please the Lord more than offering him cattle, more than sacrificing a full-grown bull. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. GNT 32 When the oppressed see this, they will be glad; those who worship God will be encouraged. NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live! GNT 33 The Lord listens to those in need and does not forget his people in prison. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. GNT 34 Praise God, O heaven and earth, seas and all creatures in them. NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, GNT 35 He will save Jerusalem and rebuild the towns of Judah. His people will live there and possess the land; NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; GNT 36 the descendants of his servants will inherit it, and those who love him will live there. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
