Psalm 83

NIRV 1 God, don't keep silent. God, don't keep quiet. Don't be still. NIV 1 O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God. NIRV 2 See how your enemies are getting ready for action. See how they are rising up against you. NIV 2 See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads. NIRV 3 They make clever plans against your people. They make evil plans against those you love. NIV 3 With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. NIRV 4 "Come," they say. "Let's destroy that whole nation. Then the name of Israel won't be remembered anymore." NIV 4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.” NIRV 5 All of them agree on the evil plans they have made. They join forces against you. NIV 5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you— NIRV 6 Their forces include the people of Edom, Ishmael, Moab and Hagar. NIV 6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, NIRV 7 They also include the people of Byblos, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia and Tyre. NIV 7 Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. NIRV 8 Even Assyria has joined them to give strength to the people of Moab and Ammon. "Selah" NIV 8 Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants. NIRV 9 Do to them what you did to the people of Midian. Do to them what you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. NIV 9 Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, NIRV 10 Sisera and Jabin died near the town of Endor. Their bodies were left to rot on the ground. NIV 10 who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground. NIRV 11 Do to the nobles of your enemies what you did to Oreb and Zeeb. Do to all of their princes what you did to Zebah and Zalmunna. NIV 11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, NIRV 12 They said, "Let's take over the grasslands that belong to God." NIV 12 who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.” NIRV 13 My God, make them like straw that the wind blows away. Make them like tumbleweed. NIV 13 Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. NIRV 14 Destroy them as fire burns up a forest. Destroy them as a flame sets mountains on fire. NIV 14 As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, NIRV 15 Chase them with your mighty winds. Terrify them with your storm. NIV 15 so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. NIRV 16 Lord, put them to shame so that people will worship you. NIV 16 Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name. NIRV 17 May they always be filled with terror and shame. May they die in dishonor. NIV 17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. NIRV 18 Your name is the Lord. Let them know that you alone are the Most High God over the whole earth. NIV 18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
