New Living Translation NLT
1 (111-1) Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments.
1
Praise the LORD ! How joyful are those who fear the LORD and delight in obeying his commands.
2 (111-2) His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.
2
Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.
3 (111-3) Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.
3
They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever.
4 (111-4) To the righteous a light is risen up in darkness: he is merciful, and compassionate and just.
4
Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.
5 (111-5) Acceptable is the man that sheweth mercy and lendeth: he shall order his words with judgment:
5
Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
6 (111-6) Because he shall not be moved for ever.
6
Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered.
7 (111-7) The just shall be in everlasting remembrance: he shall not fear the evil hearing. His heart is ready to hope in the Lord:
7
They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them.
8 (111-8) His heart is strengthened, he shall not be moved until he look over his enemies.
8
They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.
9 (111-9) He hath distributed, he hath given to the poor: his justice remaineth for ever and ever: his horn shall be exalted in glory.
9
They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.
10 (111-10) The wicked shall see, and shall be angry, he shall gnash with his teeth and pine away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
10
The wicked will see this and be infuriated. They will grind their teeth in anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted.
