Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible RHE
New Living Translation NLT
1 (113-1) When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a barbarous people:
1
When the Israelites escaped from Egypt— when the family of Jacob left that foreign land—
2 (113-2) Judea was made his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
2
the land of Judah became God’s sanctuary, and Israel became his kingdom.
3 (113-3) The sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back.
3
The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way! The water of the Jordan River turned away.
4 (113-4) The mountains skipped like rams, and the hills like the lambs of the flock.
4
The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs!
5 (113-5) What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee: and thou, O Jordan, that thou wast turned back?
5
What’s wrong, Red Sea, that made you hurry out of their way? What happened, Jordan River, that you turned away?
6 (113-6) Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and ye hills, like lambs of the flock?
6
Why, mountains, did you skip like rams? Why, hills, like lambs?
7 (113-7) At the presence of the Lord the earth was moved, at the presence of the God of Jacob:
7
Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.
8 (113-8) Who turned the rock into pools of water, and the stony hill into fountains of waters.
8
He turned the rock into a pool of water; yes, a spring of water flowed from solid rock.
