The Message Bible MSG
1 I love the LORD because he hears my requests for mercy.
1
I love God because he listened to me, listened as I begged for mercy.
2 I'll call out to him as long as I live, because he listens closely to me.
2
He listened so intently as I laid out my case before him.
3 Death's ropes bound me; the distress of the grave found me— I came face-to-face with trouble and grief.
3
Death stared me in the face, hell was hard on my heels. Up against it, I didn't know which way to turn;
4 So I called on the LORD's name: "LORD, please save me!"
4
then I called out to God for help: "Please, God!" I cried out. "Save my life!"
5 The LORD is merciful and righteous; our God is compassionate.
5
God is gracious - it is he who makes things right, our most compassionate God.
6 The LORD protects simple folk; he saves me whenever I am brought down.
6
God takes the side of the helpless; when I was at the end of my rope, he saved me.
7 I tell myself, You can be at peace again, because the LORD has been good to you.
7
I said to myself, "Relax and rest. God has showered you with blessings.
8 You, God, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, and my foot from stumbling,
8
Soul, you've been rescued from death; Eye, you've been rescued from tears; And you, Foot, were kept from stumbling."
9 so I'll walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
9
I'm striding in the presence of God, alive in the land of the living!
10 I have remained faithful, even when I said, "I am suffering so badly!"
10
I stayed faithful, though bedeviled, and despite a ton of bad luck,
11 even when I said, out of fear, "Everyone is a liar!"
11
Despite giving up on the human race, saying, "They're all liars and cheats."
12 What can I give back to the LORD for all the good things he has done for me?
12
What can I give back to God for the blessings he's poured out on me?
13 I'll lift up the cup of salvation. I'll call on the LORD's name.
13
I'll lift high the cup of salvation - a toast to God! I'll pray in the name of God;
14 I'll keep the promises I made to the LORD in the presence of all God's people.
14
I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, and I'll do it together with his people.
15 The death of the LORD's faithful is a costly loss in his eyes.
15
When they arrive at the gates of death, God welcomes those who love him.
16 Oh yes, LORD, I am definitely your servant! I am your servant and the son of your female servant— you've freed me from my chains.
16
Oh, God, here I am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service!
17 So I'll offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to you, and I'll call on the LORD's name.
17
I'm ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice and pray in the name of God.
18 I'll keep the promises I made to the LORD in the presence of all God's people,
18
I'll complete what I promised God I'd do, and I'll do it in company with his people,
19 in the courtyards of the LORD's house, which is in the center of Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!
19
In the place of worship, in God's house, in Jerusalem, God's city. Hallelujah!
