Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible RHE
New Living Translation NLT
1 (121-1) <A gradual canticle.>
1
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD .”
2 (121-1) (121-2) Our feet were standing in thy courts, O Jerusalem.
2
And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem.
3 (121-3) Jerusalem, which is built as a city, which is compact together.
3
Jerusalem is a well-built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached.
4 (121-4) For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord: the testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord.
4
All the tribes of Israel—the LORD ’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD, as the law requires of Israel.
5 (121-5) Because their seats have sat in judgment, seats upon the house of David.
5
Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David.
6 (121-6) Pray ye for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem: and abundance for them that love thee.
6
Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper.
7 (121-7) Let peace be in thy strength: and abundance in thy towers.
7
O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces.
8 (121-8) For the sake of my brethren, and of my neighbours, I spoke peace of thee.
8
For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “May you have peace.”
9 (121-9) Because of the house of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for thee.
9
For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.
