Psalm 124

RHE

NLT

1 (123-1) <A gradual canticle.> If it had not been that the Lord was with us, let Israel now say:
1 What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat:
2 (123-2) If it had not been that the Lord was with us, When men rose up against us,
2 What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us?
3 (123-3) Perhaps they had swallowed us up alive. When their fury was enkindled against us,
3 They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger.
4 (123-4) Perhaps the waters had swallowed us up.
4 The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us.
5 (123-5) Our soul hath passed through a torrent: perhaps our soul had passed through a water insupportable.
5 Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.
6 (123-6) Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us to be a prey to their teeth.
6 Praise the LORD, who did not let their teeth tear us apart!
7 (123-7) Our soul hath been delivered as a sparrow out of the snare of the fowlers. The snare is broken, and we are delivered.
7 We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free!
8 (123-8) Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
8 Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
