1 When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed.

<<A Song of Ascents.>> When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion, We were like those who dream.
2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then said they among the nations, "Yahweh has done great things for them."
3 The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

Yahweh has done great things for us, And we are glad.
4 Restore our fortunes,LORD, like streams in the Negev.

Restore our fortunes again, Yahweh, Like the streams in the Negev.
5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing, Will assuredly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.
