Psalm 132

CEB

MSG

1 LORD, remember David— all the ways he suffered
1 O God, remember David, remember all his troubles!
2 and how he swore to the LORD, how he promised the strong one of Jacob:
2 And remember how he promised God, made a vow to the Strong God of Jacob,
3 "I won't enter my house, won't get into my bed.
3 "I'm not going home, and I'm not going to bed,
4 I won't let my eyes close, won't let my eyelids sleep,
4 I'm not going to sleep, not even take time to rest,
5 until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the strong one of Jacob."
5 Until I find a home for God, a house for the Strong God of Jacob."
6 Yes, we heard about it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.
6 Remember how we got the news in Ephrathah, learned all about it at Jaar Meadows?
7 Let's enter God's dwelling place; let's worship at the place God rests his feet!
7 We shouted, "Let's go to the shrine dedication! Let's worship at God's own footstool!"
8 Get up, LORD, go to your residence— you and your powerful covenant chest!
8 Up, God, enjoy your new place of quiet repose, you and your mighty covenant ark;
9 Let your priests be dressed in righteousness; let your faithful shout out with joy!
9 Get your priests all dressed up in justice; prompt your worshipers to sing this prayer:
10 And for the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.
10 "Honor your servant David; don't disdain your anointed one."
11 The LORD swore to David a true promise that God won't take back: "I will put one of your own children on your throne.
11 God gave David his word, he won't back out on this promise: "One of your sons I will set on your throne;
12 And if your children keep my covenant and the laws that I will teach them, then their children too will rule on your throne forever."
12 If your sons stay true to my Covenant and learn to live the way I teach them, Their sons will continue the line - always a son to sit on your throne.
13 Because the LORD chose Zion; he wanted it for his home.
13 Yes - I, God, chose Zion, the place I wanted for my shrine;
14 "This is my residence forever. I will live here because I wanted it for myself.
14 This will always be my home; this is what I want, and I'm here for good.
15 I will most certainly bless its food supply; I will fill its needy full of food!
15 I'll shower blessings on the pilgrims who come here, and give supper to those who arrive hungry;
16 I will dress its priests in salvation, and its faithful will shout out loud with joy!
16 I'll dress my priests in salvation clothes; the holy people will sing their hearts out!
17 It is there that I will make David's strength thrive. I will prepare a lamp for my anointed one there.
17 Oh, I'll make the place radiant for David! I'll fill it with light for my anointed!
18 I will dress his enemies in shame, but the crown he wears will shine."
18 I'll dress his enemies in dirty rags, but I'll make his crown sparkle with splendor."
