1 LORD, remember David and all his self-denial.

Cantique des degrés. Eternel, souviens-toi de David, De toutes ses peines!
2 He swore an oath to the LORD, he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:

Il jura à l'Eternel, Il fit ce voeu au puissant de Jacob:
3 “I will not enter my house or go to my bed,

Je n'entrerai pas dans la tente où j'habite, Je ne monterai pas sur le lit où je repose,
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids,
4
Je ne donnerai ni sommeil à mes yeux, Ni assoupissement à mes paupières.
5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Jusqu'à ce que j'aie trouvé un lieu pour l'Eternel, Une demeure pour le puissant de Jacob.
6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:

Voici, nous en entendîmes parler à Ephrata, Nous la trouvâmes dans les champs de Jaar...
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place, let us worship at his footstool, saying,

Allons à sa demeure, Prosternons-nous devant son marchepied!...
8 ‘Arise, LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.

Lève-toi, Eternel, viens à ton lieu de repos, Toi et l'arche de ta majesté!
9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.’ ”

Que tes sacrificateurs soient revêtus de justice, Et que tes fidèles poussent des cris de joie!
10 For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one.

A cause de David, ton serviteur, Ne repousse pas ton oint!
11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne.

L'Eternel a juré la vérité à David, Il n'en reviendra pas; Je mettrai sur ton trône un fruit de tes entrailles.
12 If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”

Si tes fils observent mon alliance Et mes préceptes que je leur enseigne, Leurs fils aussi pour toujours Seront assis sur ton trône.
13 For the LORD has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,

Oui, l'Eternel a choisi Sion, Il l'a désirée pour sa demeure:
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever; here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.

C'est mon lieu de repos à toujours; J'y habiterai, car je l'ai désirée.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions; her poor I will satisfy with food.

Je bénirai sa nourriture, Je rassasierai de pain ses indigents;
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.

Je revêtirai de salut ses sacrificateurs, Et ses fidèles pousseront des cris de joie.
17 “Here I will make a horn grow for David and set up a lamp for my anointed one.

Là j'élèverai la puissance de David, Je préparerai une lampe à mon oint,
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame, but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”

Je revêtirai de honte ses ennemis, Et sur lui brillera sa couronne.
