1 Blessed be God, my mountain, who trains me to fight fair and well.
1
<<By David.>> Blessed be Yahweh, my rock, Who teaches my hands to war, And my fingers to battle:
2 He's the bedrock on which I stand, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight, The high crag where I run for dear life, while he lays my enemies low.
2
My lovingkindness, my fortress, My high tower, my deliverer, My shield, and he in whom I take refuge; Who subdues my people under me.
3 I wonder why you care, God - why do you bother with us at all?
3
Yahweh, what is man, that you care for him? Or the son of man, that you think of him?
4 All we are is a puff of air; we're like shadows in a campfire.
4
Man is like a breath. His days are like a shadow that passes away.
5 Step down out of heaven, God; ignite volcanoes in the hearts of the mountains.
5
Part your heavens, Yahweh, and come down. Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.
6 Hurl your lightnings in every direction; shoot your arrows this way and that.
6
Throw out lightning, and scatter them. Send out your arrows, and rout them.
7 Reach all the way from sky to sea: pull me out of the ocean of hate, out of the grip of those barbarians
7
Stretch out your hand from above, Rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters, Out of the hands of foreigners;
8 Who lie through their teeth, who shake your hand then knife you in the back.
8
Whose mouths speak deceit, Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
9 O God, let me sing a new song to you, let me play it on a twelve-string guitar -
9
I will sing a new song to you, God. On a ten-stringed lyre, I will sing praises to you.
10 A song to the God who saved the king, the God who rescued David, his servant.
10
You are he who gives salvation to kings, Who rescues David, his servant, from the deadly sword.
11 Rescue me from the enemy sword, release me from the grip of those barbarians Who lie through their teeth, who shake your hand then knife you in the back.
11
Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hands of foreigners, Whose mouths speak deceit, Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
12 Make our sons in their prime like sturdy oak trees, Our daughters as shapely and bright as fields of wildflowers.
12
Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants, Our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
13 Fill our barns with great harvest, fill our fields with huge flocks;
13
Our barns are full, filled with all kinds of provision. Our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields.
14 Protect us from invasion and exile - eliminate the crime in our streets.
14
Our oxen will pull heavy loads. There is no breaking in, and no going away, And no outcry in our streets.
15 How blessed the people who have all this! How blessed the people who have God for God!
15
Happy are the people who are in such a situation. Happy are the people whose God is Yahweh.
