1 Keep me safe, O God, I've run for dear life to you.
1
<<A Poem by David.>> Preserve me, God, for in you do I take refuge.
2 I say to God, "Be my Lord!" Without you, nothing makes sense.
2
My soul, you have said to Yahweh, "You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing."
3 And these God-chosen lives all around - what splendid friends they make!
3
As for the saints who are in the earth, They are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.
4 Don't just go shopping for a god. Gods are not for sale. I swear I'll never treat god-names like brand-names.
4
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god. Their drink-offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take their names on my lips.
5 My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I'm your choice!
5
Yahweh assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure.
6 You set me up with a house and yard. And then you made me your heir!
6
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places. Yes, I have a good inheritance.
7 The wise counsel God gives when I'm awake is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
7
I will bless Yahweh, who has given me counsel. Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.
8 Day and night I'll stick with God; I've got a good thing going and I'm not letting go.
8
I have set Yahweh always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 I'm happy from the inside out, and from the outside in, I'm firmly formed.
9
Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety.
10 You canceled my ticket to hell - that's not my destination!
10
For you will not leave my soul in Sheol, Neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption.
11 Now you've got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I'm on the right way.
11
You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
