The Message Bible MSG
1 In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
1
I run to you, God; I run for dear life. Don't let me down! Take me seriously this time!
2 Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me!
2
Get down on my level and listen, and please - no procrastination! Your granite cave a hiding place, your high cliff aerie a place of safety.
3 For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me;
3
You're my cave to hide in, my cliff to climb. Be my safe leader, be my true mountain guide.
4 you take me out of the net they have hidden for me, for you are my refuge.
4
Free me from hidden traps; I want to hide in you.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.
5
I've put my life in your hands. You won't drop me, you'll never let me down.
6 I hate those who pay regard to worthless idols, but I trust in the LORD.
6
I hate all this silly religion, but you, God, I trust.
7 I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul,
7
I'm leaping and singing in the circle of your love; you saw my pain, you disarmed my tormentors,
8 and you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a broad place.
8
You didn't leave me in their clutches but gave me room to breathe.
9 Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief; my soul and my body also.
9
Be kind to me, God - I'm in deep, deep trouble again. I've cried my eyes out; I feel hollow inside.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones waste away.
10
My life leaks away, groan by groan; my years fade out in sighs. My troubles have worn me out, turned my bones to powder.
11 Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.
11
To my enemies I'm a monster; I'm ridiculed by the neighbors. My friends are horrified; they cross the street to avoid me.
12 I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.
12
They want to blot me from memory, forget me like a corpse in a grave, discard me like a broken dish in the trash.
13 For I hear the whispering of many-- terror on every side!-- as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.
13
The street-talk gossip has me "criminally insane"! Behind locked doors they plot how to ruin me for good.
14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."
14
Desperate, I throw myself on you: you are my God!
15 My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
15
Hour by hour I place my days in your hand, safe from the hands out to get me.
16 Make your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!
16
Warm me, your servant, with a smile; save me because you love me.
17 O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently to Sheol.
17
Don't embarrass me by not showing up; I've given you plenty of notice. Embarrass the wicked, stand them up, leave them stupidly shaking their heads as they drift down to hell.
18 Let the lying lips be mute, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.
18
Gag those loudmouthed liars who heckle me, your follower, with jeers and catcalls.
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!
19
What a stack of blessing you have piled up for those who worship you, Ready and waiting for all who run to you to escape an unkind world.
20 In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.
20
You hide them safely away from the opposition. As you slam the door on those oily, mocking faces, you silence the poisonous gossip.
21 Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was in a besieged city.
21
Blessed God! His love is the wonder of the world.
22 I had said in my alarm, "I am cut off from your sight." But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
22
I panicked. "Out of sight, out of mind," I said. But you heard me say it, you heard and listened.
23 Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
23
Love God, all you saints; God takes care of all who stay close to him, But he pays back in full those arrogant enough to go it alone.
24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!
24
Be brave. Be strong. Don't give up. Expect God to get here soon.
