1 Count yourself lucky, how happy you must be - you get a fresh start, your slate's wiped clean.
1
<<By David. A contemplative psalm.>> Blessed is he whose disobedience is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.
2 Count yourself lucky - God holds nothing against you and you're holding nothing back from him.
2
Blessed is the man to whom Yahweh doesn't impute iniquity, In whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 When I kept it all inside, my bones turned to powder, my words became daylong groans.
3
When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
4 The pressure never let up; all the juices of my life dried up.
4
For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah.
5 Then I let it all out; I said, "I'll make a clean breast of my failures to God." Suddenly the pressure was gone - my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.
5
I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn't hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, And you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6 These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray; when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we'll be on high ground, untouched.
6
For this, let everyone that is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.
7 God's my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.
7
You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8 Let me give you some good advice; I'm looking you in the eye and giving it to you straight:
8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.
9 "Don't be ornery like a horse or mule that needs bit and bridle to stay on track."
9
Don't be like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding, Whose are controlled by bit and bridle, or else they will not come near to you.
10 God-defiers are always in trouble; God-affirmers find themselves loved every time they turn around.
10
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked, But he who trusts in Yahweh, lovingkindness shall surround him.
11 Celebrate God. Sing together - everyone! All you honest hearts, raise the roof!
11
Be glad in Yahweh, and rejoice, you righteous! Shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart!
