Psalm 5

MSG

WEB

1 Listen, God! Please, pay attention! Can you make sense of these ramblings,
1 <<For the Chief Musician, with the flutes. A Psalm by David.>> Give ear to my words, Yahweh. Consider my meditation.
2 my groans and cries? King-God, I need your help.
2 Listen to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; For to you do I pray.
3 Every morning you'll hear me at it again. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on your altar and watch for fire to descend.
3 Yahweh, in the morning shall you hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.
4 You don't socialize with Wicked, or invite Evil over as your houseguest.
4 For you are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness. Evil can't live with you.
5 Hot-Air-Boaster collapses in front of you; you shake your head over Mischief-Maker.
5 The arrogant shall not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.
6 God destroys Lie-Speaker; Blood-Thirsty and Truth-Bender disgust you.
6 You will destroy those who speak lies. Yahweh abhors the blood-thirsty and deceitful man.
7 And here I am, your invited guest - it's incredible! I enter your house; here I am, prostrate in your inner sanctum,
7 But as for me, in the abundance of your lovingkindness I will come into your house: I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.
8 Waiting for directions to get me safely through enemy lines.
8 Lead me, Yahweh, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.
9 Every word they speak is a land mine; their lungs breathe out poison gas. Their throats are gaping graves, their tongues slick as mudslides.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their inward part is destruction. Their throat is an open tomb. They flatter with their tongue.
10 Pile on the guilt, God! Let their so-called wisdom wreck them. Kick them out! They've had their chance.
10 Hold them guilty, God. Let them fall by their own counsels; Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against you.
11 But you'll welcome us with open arms when we run for cover to you. Let the party last all night! Stand guard over our celebration.
11 But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice, Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.
12 You are famous, God, for welcoming God-seekers, for decking us out in delight.
12 For you will bless the righteous. Yahweh, you will surround him with favor as with a shield.
