1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?

<<For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to Abimelech's house.">> Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God's lovingkindness endures continually.
2 You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.

Your tongue plots destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than speaking the truth.

You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah.
4 You love every harmful word, you deceitful tongue!

You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue.
5 Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living.

God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, And root you out of the land of the living. Selah.
6 The righteous will see and fear; they will laugh at you, saying,

The righteous also will see it, and fear, And laugh at him, saying,
7 “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!”

"Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness."
8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house. I trust in God's lovingkindness forever and ever.
9 For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good.

I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it. I will hope in your name, for it is good, In the presence of your saints.
