Psalm 57

RHE

NLT

1 (56-1) <Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into the cave.> (56-2) Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.
1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.
2 (56-3) I will cry to God the most high; to God who hath done good to me.
2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
3 (56-4) He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,
3 He will send help from heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. Interlude My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.
4 (56-5) And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
4 I am surrounded by fierce lions who greedily devour human prey— whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows, and whose tongues cut like swords.
5 (56-6) Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth.
6 (56-7) They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.
6 My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. Interlude
7 (56-8) My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and rehearse a psalm.
7 My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!
8 (56-9) Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early.
8 Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song.
9 (56-10) I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations.
9 I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations.
10 (56-11) For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: and thy truth unto the clouds.
10 For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
11 (56-12) Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth.
