The Message Bible MSG
1 Please, LORD, don't punish me when you are angry; don't discipline me when you are furious.
1
Please, God, no more yelling, no more trips to the woodshed.
2 Have mercy on me, LORD, because I'm frail. Heal me, LORD, because my bones are shaking in terror!
2
Treat me nice for a change; I'm so starved for affection. Can't you see I'm black and blue,
3 My whole body is completely terrified! But you, LORD! How long will this last?
3
and soul? God, how long will it take for you to let up?
4 Come back to me, LORD! Deliver me! Save me for the sake of your faithful love!
4
Break in, God, and break up this fight; if you love me at all, get me out of here.
5 No one is going to praise you when they are dead. Who gives you thanks from the grave?
5
I'm no good to you dead, am I? I can't sing in your choir if I'm buried in some tomb!
6 I'm worn out from groaning. Every night, I drench my bed with tears; I soak my couch all the way through.
6
I'm tired of all this - so tired. My bed has been floating forty days and nights On the flood of my tears. My mattress is soaked, soggy with tears.
7 My vision fails because of my grief; it's weak because of all my distress.
7
The sockets of my eyes are black holes; nearly blind, I squint and grope.
8 Get away from me, all you evildoers, because the LORD has heard me crying!
8
Get out of here, you Devil's crew: at last God has heard my sobs.
9 The LORD has listened to my request. The LORD accepts my prayer.
9
My requests have all been granted, my prayers are answered.
10 All my enemies will be ashamed and completely terrified; they will be defeated and ashamed instantly.
10
Cowards, my enemies disappear. Disgraced, they turn tail and run.
