The Message Bible MSG
1 God, don't be silent! Don't be quiet or sit still, God,
1
God, don't shut me out; don't give me the silent treatment, O God.
2 because—look!—your enemies are growling; those who hate you are acting arrogantly.
2
Your enemies are out there whooping it up, the God-haters are living it up;
3 They concoct crafty plans against your own people; they plot against the people you favor.
3
They're plotting to do your people in, conspiring to rob you of your precious ones.
4 "Come on," they say, "let's wipe them out as a nation! Let the name Israel be remembered no more!"
4
"Let's wipe this nation from the face of the earth," they say; "scratch Israel's name off the books."
5 They plot with a single-minded heart; they make a covenant against you.
5
And now they're putting their heads together, making plans to get rid of you.
6 They are the clans of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
6
Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia along with the citizens of Tyre.
7
Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia and the Tyrians,
8 Assyria too has joined them— they are the strong arm for Lot's children. Selah
8
And now Assyria has joined up, Giving muscle to the gang of Lot.
9 Do to them what you did to Midian, to Sisera, and to Jabin at the Kishon River.
9
Do to them what you did to Midian, to Sisera and Jabin at Kishon Brook;
10 They were destroyed at Endor; they become fertilizer for the ground.
10
They came to a bad end at Endor, nothing but dung for the garden.
11 Make their officials like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna—
11
Cut down their leaders as you did Oreb and Zeeb, their princes to nothings like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 those who said, "Let's take God's pastures for ourselves."
12
With their empty brags, "We're grabbing it all, grabbing God's gardens for ourselves."
13 My God, make them like tumbleweeds, like chaff blown by wind.
13
My God! I've had it with them! Blow them away! Tumbleweeds in the desert waste,
14 Just like a fire consumes a forest, just like flames set mountains ablaze,
14
charred sticks in the burned-over ground.
15 pursue them with your storm, terrify them with your hurricane.
15
Knock the breath right out of them, so they're gasping
16 Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they might seek your name.
16
for breath, gasping, "God."
17 Let them be shamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace.
17
Bring them to the end of their rope, and leave them there dangling, helpless.
18 Let them know that you— your name is the LORD!— you alone are Most High over all the earth.
18
Then they'll learn your name: "God," the one and only High God on earth.
