New International Version NIV
New Century Version NCV
1 LORD, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you.
1
Lord, you are the God who saves me. I cry out to you day and night.
2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry.
2
Receive my prayer, and listen to my cry.
3 I am overwhelmed with troubles and my life draws near to death.
3
My life is full of troubles, and I am nearly dead.
4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength.
4
They think I am on the way to my grave. I am like a man with no strength.
5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care.
5
I have been left as dead, like a body lying in a grave whom you don't remember anymore, cut off from your care.
6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths.
6
You have brought me close to death; I am almost in the dark place of the dead.
7 Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.
7
You have been very angry with me; all your waves crush me.Selah
8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape;
8
You have taken my friends away from me and have made them hate me. I am trapped and cannot escape.
9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you.
9
My eyes are weak from crying. Lord, I have prayed to you every day; I have lifted my hands in prayer to you.
10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you?
10
Do you show your miracles for the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you?Selah
11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ?
11
Will your love be told in the grave? Will your loyalty be told in the place of death?
12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
12
Will your miracles be known in the dark grave? Will your goodness be known in the land of forgetfulness?
13 But I cry to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you.
13
But, Lord, I have called out to you for help; every morning I pray to you.
14 Why, LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me?
14
Lord, why do you reject me? Why do you hide from me?
15 From my youth I have suffered and been close to death; I have borne your terrors and am in despair.
15
I have been weak and dying since I was young. I suffer from your terrors, and I am helpless.
16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me.
16
You have been angry with me, and your terrors have destroyed me.
17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me.
17
They surround me daily like a flood; they are all around me.
18 You have taken from me friend and neighbor— darkness is my closest friend.
18
You have taken away my loved ones and friends. Darkness is my only friend. A maskil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
