GOD'S WORD Translation

New International Version

Romans 5:1-13

GW 1 Now that we have God's approval by faith, we have peace with God because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done. NIV 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, GW 2 Through Christ we can approach God and stand in his favor. So we brag because of our confidence that we will receive glory from God. NIV 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. GW 3 But that's not all. We also brag when we are suffering. We know that suffering creates endurance, NIV 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; GW 4 endurance creates character, and character creates confidence. NIV 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. GW 5 We're not ashamed to have this confidence, because God's love has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. NIV 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. GW 6 Look at it this way: At the right time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for ungodly people. NIV 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. GW 7 Finding someone who would die for a godly person is rare. Maybe someone would have the courage to die for a good person. NIV 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. GW 8 Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God's love for us. NIV 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. GW 9 Since Christ's blood has now given us God's approval, we are even more certain that Christ will save us from God's anger. NIV 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! GW 10 If the death of his Son restored our relationship with God while we were still his enemies, we are even more certain that, because of this restored relationship, the life of his Son will save us. NIV 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! GW 11 In addition, our Lord Jesus Christ lets us continue to brag about God. After all, it is through Christ that we now have this restored relationship with God. NIV 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. GW 12 Sin came into the world through one person, and death came through sin. So death spread to everyone, because everyone sinned. NIV 12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— GW 13 Sin was in the world before there were any laws. But no record of sin can be kept when there are no laws. NIV 13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.
