Deuteronomio 15:1-9

1 Liberación de las deudas
»Al final de cada séptimo año, tienes que anular las deudas de todos los que te deban dinero.

2 Lo harás de la siguiente manera: cada uno anulará los préstamos que le haya hecho a otro hermano israelita; nadie exigirá ningún pago de sus vecinos ni de sus parientes, porque habrá llegado el tiempo del Señor
para la liberación de las deudas.

3 Sin embargo, esa liberación solo sirve para tus hermanos israelitas, pero no para los extranjeros que vivan en medio de ti.

4 »No deberá haber pobres en medio de ti, porque el Señor
tu Dios te bendecirá en abundancia en la tierra que te da como preciada posesión.

5 Recibirás esa bendición si te aseguras de obedecer los mandatos del Señor
tu Dios que te entrego hoy.

6 El Señor
tu Dios te bendecirá tal como lo prometió. Prestarás dinero a muchas naciones pero nunca tendrás necesidad de pedirles prestado. Tú gobernarás a muchas naciones, pero ellas no te gobernarán a ti.

7 »Pero si hubiera israelitas pobres en tus ciudades cuando llegues a la tierra que el Señor
tu Dios te da, no seas insensible ni tacaño con ellos.

8 En cambio, sé generoso y préstales lo que necesiten.

9 No seas mezquino ni le niegues un préstamo a alguien por el hecho de que se acerca el año para anular las deudas. Si te niegas a dar el préstamo, y la persona con necesidad clama al Señor
, serás culpable de pecado.

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 15

This chapter treats of a release of debts every seventh year, to which a blessing is promised if attended to, De 15:1-6, which seventh year of release should not hinder lending to a poor man in distress, even though it was nigh at hand, De 15:7-11 and of letting servants go free, whether manservant or maidservant, at the end of six years' servitude, De 15:12-15 but if unwilling to go, and desirous of staying, must have his ear bored through with an awl, and serve to the year of jubilee, De 15:16-18 and of sanctifying and eating the firstlings of the herd and flock where the Lord directs, De 15:19-23.
