Isaia 27:1-9

1 In quel giorno, l’Eterno punirà con la sua spada dura, grande e forte, il leviathan, l’agile serpente, il leviathan, il serpente tortuoso, e ucciderà il mostro che è nel mare!

2 In quel giorno, cantate la vigna dal vin vermiglio!

3 Io, l’Eterno, ne sono il guardiano, io l’adacquo ad ogni istante; la custodisco notte e giorno, affinché niuno la danneggi.

4 Nessuna ira è in me. Ah! se avessi a combattere contro rovi e pruni, io muoverei contro a loro, e li brucerei tutti assieme!

5 A meno che non mi si prenda per rifugio, che non si faccia la pace meco, che non si faccia la pace meco.

6 In avvenire, Giacobbe metterà radice, Israele fiorirà e germoglierà, e copriranno di frutta la faccia del mondo.

7 L’Eterno ha egli colpito il suo popolo come ha colpito quelli che colpivan lui? L’ha egli ucciso come ha ucciso quelli che uccidevan lui?

8 Tu l’hai punito con misura, mandandolo lontano, portandolo via con il tuo soffio impetuoso, in un giorno di vento orientale.

9 In questo modo è stata espiata l’iniquità di Giacobbe, e questo è il frutto della rimozione del suo peccato: ch’Egli ha ridotte tutte le pietre degli altari come pietre di calce frantumate, in guisa che gl’idoli d’Astarte e le colonne solari non risorgeranno più.

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 27

This chapter refers to the same times as the two foregoing ones Isa 25:1-26:21; and is a continuation of the same song, or rather a new one on the same occasion; it is prophetical of the last times, and of what shall be done in them, as the destruction of the antichristian powers, and Satan at the head of them, Isa 27:1 the happy state of the church, and its fruitfulness under the care and protection of the Lord, and his affection for it, Isa 27:2-4 its peace, prosperity, and flourishing condition, Isa 27:5,6 the nature, use, and end of all its afflictions and chastisements, Isa 27:7-9 the ruin and destruction of the city of Rome, and its inhabitants, and of its whole jurisdiction, Isa 27:10,11 a great gathering and conversion of the Lord's people, both Jews and Gentiles, by the ministry of the Gospel, Isa 27:12,13.
