12 E il re si levò nella notte, e disse ai suoi servi: "Vi voglio dire io quel che ci hanno fatto i Siri. Sanno che patiamo la fame; sono quindi usciti dal campo a nascondersi per la campagna, dicendo: Come usciranno dalla città, li prenderemo vivi, ed entreremo nella città".

2 Kings 7:12

And the king arose in the night
Upon the report made to him:

and he said unto his servants, I will now show you what the Syrians
have done to us;
taking it to be a stratagem of theirs to decoy them:

they know that we be hungry;
and would be glad to come out of the city to get some food:

therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the
field;
to make us believe that they have broke up the siege, and have deserted the camp, and are gone, when they only lie in ambush:

saying, when they come out of the city;
which they supposed they would do through hunger:

we shall catch them alive;
take them captive at once:

and get into the city;
being open to let them out, and receive them on their return.

10 Così partirono, chiamarono i guardiani della porta di città, e li informarono della cosa, dicendo: "Siamo andati al campo dei Siri, ed ecco che non v’è alcuno, né vi s’ode voce d’uomo; non vi son che i cavalli attaccati, gli asini attaccati, e le tende intatte".

11 Allora i guardiani chiamarono, e fecero saper la cosa alla gente del re dentro il palazzo.

12 E il re si levò nella notte, e disse ai suoi servi: "Vi voglio dire io quel che ci hanno fatto i Siri. Sanno che patiamo la fame; sono quindi usciti dal campo a nascondersi per la campagna, dicendo: Come usciranno dalla città, li prenderemo vivi, ed entreremo nella città".

13 Uno de’ suoi servi gli rispose: "Ti prego, si prendan cinque de’ cavalli che rimangono ancora nella città guardate! son come tutta la moltitudine d’Israele che v’è rimasta; son come tutta la moltitudine d’Israele che va in consunzione! e mandiamo a vedere di che si tratta".

14 Presero dunque due carri coi loro cavalli, e il re mandò degli uomini in traccia dell’esercito dei Siri, dicendo: "Andate e vedete".
