2 Kings 8:7

And Elisha came to Damascus
On what account, and when, is not certain, whether to convert Gehazi, as say the Jews ^F4; or to confirm Naaman in the true religion he professed, for which he might be dismissed from his office, since another man was made general of the Syrian army; or on account of the famine; or rather it may be to anoint, or, however, to declare that Hazael would be king of Syria; see ( 1 Kings 19:15 ) ,

and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick;
at the time he came thither, where his palace was, and now a Mahometan temple; a very extraordinary building, according to Benjamin the Jew ^F5:

and it was told him, saying, the man of God is come hither;
the famous prophet in Israel, Elisha, through whom Naaman his general had been cured of his leprosy, of whom he had heard so much.

5 E mentre appunto Ghehazi raccontava al re come Eliseo avea risuscitato il morto, ecco che la donna, di cui era stato risuscitato il figliuolo, venne a ricorrere al re per riavere la sua casa e le sue terre. E Ghehazi disse: "O re, mio signore, questa è quella donna, e questo è il suo figliuolo, che Eliseo ha risuscitato".

6 Il re interrogò la donna, che gli raccontò tutto; e il re le dette un eunuco, al quale disse: "Falle restituire tutto quello ch’è suo, e tutte le rendite delle terre, dal giorno in cui ella lasciò il paese, fino ad ora".

8 Allora il re disse ad Hazael: "Prendi teco un regalo, va’ incontro all’uomo di Dio, e consulta per mezzo di lui l’Eterno, per sapere se io guarirò da questa malattia".

9 Hazael dunque andò incontro ad Eliseo, portando seco in regalo tutto quello che v’era di meglio in Damasco: un carico di quaranta cammelli. Come fu giunto, si presentò ad Eliseo, e gli disse: "Il tuo figliuolo Ben-Hadad, re di Siria, mi ha mandato a te per dirti: "Guarirò io da questa malattia?"
