2 Re 21:1-6

1 Manasse avea dodici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantacinque anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Heftsiba.
2 Egli fece ciò ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno, seguendo le abominazioni delle nazioni che l’Eterno avea cacciate d’innanzi ai figliuoli d’Israele.
3 Egli riedificò gli alti luoghi che Ezechia suo padre avea distrutti, eresse altari a Baal, fece un idolo d’Astarte, come avea fatto Achab re d’Israele, e adorò tutto l’esercito del cielo e lo servì.
4 Eresse pure degli altari ad altri dèi nella casa dell’Eterno, riguardo alla quale l’Eterno avea detto: "In Gerusalemme io porrò il mio nome".
5 Eresse altari a tutto l’esercito del cielo nei due cortili della casa dell’Eterno.
6 Fece passare pel fuoco il suo figliuolo, si dette alla magia e agl’incantesimi, e istituì di quelli che evocavano gli spiriti e predicevan l’avvenire; s’abbandonò interamente a fare ciò ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno, provocandolo ad ira.

INTRODUCTION TO 2 KINGS 21

In this chapter a short history is given of the two wicked reigns of Manasseh and Amon; Manasseh is charged with great idolatry, with enchantments and witchcrafts, and seducing the children of Israel, 2Ki 21:1-9 and a prophecy is given out of the destruction of Jerusalem for his sins, 2Ki 21:10-16, and an account is given of his death and burial, 2Ki 21:17,18, and of his son and successor Amon, and the evils committed by him, 2Ki 21:19-22 and of the conspiracy against his life, which succeeded, and Josiah his son reigned in his stead, 2Ki 21:23-26.
