2 Samuele 3:14-24

14 E Davide spedì de’ messi a Jsh-Bosheth, figliuolo di Saul, per dirgli: "Rendimi Mical, mia moglie, la quale io mi fidanzai a prezzo di cento prepuzi di Filistei".

15 Jsh-Bosheth la mandò a prendere di presso al marito Paltiel, figliuolo di Lais.

16 E il marito andò con lei, l’accompagnò piangendo, e la seguì fino a Bahurim. Poi Abner gli disse: "Va’, torna indietro!" Ed egli se ne ritornò.

17 Intanto Abner entrò in trattative con gli anziani d’Israele, dicendo: "Già da lungo tempo state cercando d’aver Davide per vostro re;

18 ora è tempo d’agire; giacché l’Eterno ha parlato di lui e ha detto: Per mezzo di Davide, mio servo, io salverò il mio popolo Israele dalle mani dei Filistei e da quelle di tutti i suoi nemici".

19 Abner si abboccò pure con quelli di Beniamino; quindi andò anche a trovar Davide a Hebron per metterlo a parte di tutto quello che Israele e tutta la casa di Beniamino aveano deciso.

20 Abner giunse a Hebron presso Davide, accompagnato da venti uomini; e Davide fece un convito ad Abner e agli uomini ch’erano con lui.

21 Poi Abner disse a Davide: "Io mi leverò e andrò a radunare tutto Israele presso il re mio signore, affinché essi facciano alleanza teco e tu regni su tutto quello che il cuor tuo desidera". Così Davide accomiatò Abner, che se ne andò in pace.

22 Or ecco che la gente di Davide e Joab tornavano da una scorreria, portando seco gran bottino; ma Abner non era più con Davide in Hebron, poiché questi lo avea licenziato ed egli se n’era andato in pace.

23 Quando Joab e tutta la gente ch’era con lui furono arrivati, qualcuno riferì la nuova a Joab, dicendo: "Abner, figliuolo di Ner, è venuto dal re, il quale lo ha licenziato, ed egli se n’è andato in pace".

24 Allora Joab si recò dal re, e gli disse "Che hai tu fatto? Ecco, Abner era venuto da te; perché l’hai tu licenziato, sì ch’egli ha potuto andarsene liberamente?

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND SAMUEL 3

This chapter begins with the continuation of the war between the house of Saul and the house of David, 2Sa 3:1; and gives an account of the wives of David, and his sons by them, 2Sa 3:2-5; of a quarrel between Ishbosheth and Abner, 2Sa 3:6-11; and of Abner's proposal to make a league with David; but David would not see his face unless Michal his wife was returned to him, who was accordingly, 2Sa 3:12-16; and of the interest Abner made with the elders of Israel in favour of David, which he reported to him, and promised to make more, 2Sa 3:17-21; but Joab returning from a pursuit, and with great spoil, just as Abner departed, and hearing of it, chided David for letting him go, and privately sent for him back, and treacherously murdered him, 2Sa 3:22-27; from which murder David cleared himself and his kingdom, and for it made dreadful imprecations on Joab and his family, 2Sa 3:28-30; and buried Abner with great lamentation, expressing much concern for his death, and the high opinion he had of him, 2Sa 3:31-39.
