Acts 27:15

And when the ship was caught
By the wind, snatched up by it, and forcibly carried away:

and could not bear up into the wind;
and against it, or look it in the face, as the word signifies; could not ply to windward, the wind being so high and the sea so strong:

we let her drive;
about the sea, at pleasure, it being in vain to attempt to get her forward against the wind, or to direct her course.

13 Essendosi intanto levato un leggero scirocco, e credendo essi d’esser venuti a capo del loro proposito, levate le àncore, si misero a costeggiare l’isola di Creta più da presso.
14 Ma poco dopo, si scatenò giù dall’isola un vento turbinoso, che si chiama Euraquilone;
15 ed essendo la nave portata via e non potendo reggere al vento, la lasciammo andare, ed eravamo portati alla deriva.
16 E passati rapidamente sotto un’isoletta chiamata Clauda, a stento potemmo avere in nostro potere la scialuppa.
17 E quando l’ebbero tirata su, ricorsero a ripari, cingendo la nave di sotto; e temendo di esser gettati sulla Sirti, calarono le vele, ed eran così portati via.
