Esdra 4:15

15 Si facciano delle ricerche nel libro delle memorie de’ tuoi padri; e nel libro delle memorie troverai e apprenderai che questa città è una città ribelle, perniciosa a re ed a province, e che fin da tempi antichi vi si son fatte delle sedizioni; per queste ragioni, la città è stata distrutta.

Ezra 4:15

That search may be made in the book of the records of thy
fathers
That is, his predecessors in the Babylonian monarchy; though, as the Medes and Persians were included in that, and joined the Babylonians in their wars with others, and particularly with the Jews, the records of the Medes and Persians might also be applied to:

so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city
is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that
they have moved sedition within the same of old time;
against the king of Babylon, particularly in the times of Jehoiakim and Zedekiah:

for which cause was this city destroyed;
as it was by Nebuchadnezzar; see ( 2 Kings 24:1 2 Kings 24:20 ) ( 2 Kings 25:1 2 Kings 25:9 ) .

13 Sappia dunque il re che, se questa città si riedifica e se le sue mura si rialzano, essi non pagheranno più né tributo né imposta né pedaggio, e il tesoro dei re n’avrà a soffrire.

14 Or siccome noi mangiamo il sale del palazzo e non ci sembra conveniente lo stare a vedere il danno del re, mandiamo al re questa informazione.

16 Noi facciamo sapere al re che, se questa città si riedifica e le sue mura si rialzano, tu non avrai più possessi da questo lato del fiume".

17 Il re mandò questa risposta a Rehum il governatore, a Scimshai il segretario, e al resto dei loro colleghi che stavano a Samaria e altrove di là dal fiume: "Salute, ecc.
