Joel 2:18

Then will the Lord be jealous for his land
Or "zealous" for it; for the honour of it, and the good of its inhabitants, and for the glory of his own name, it being the chief place in the world for his worship and service; and his indignation will be moved against those who have brought desolation on it: and pity his people;
as a father his children, who had suffered much, and had been reduced to great distress by the locusts, or by their enemies: this the prophet foretells would be done upon their repentance, fasting, prayers, and tears; or, as some think, this is a narrative of what had been done, and the prophet was a witness of; that the people meeting together with their princess and priests, and humbling themselves before the Lord, and crying to him, he expressed a zeal and compassion for them, and delivered them out of their troubles; for though their humiliation is not expressed, it may be understood and supposed, as doubtless, it was fact.

16 Radunare il popolo, bandite una santa assemblea! Radunate i vecchi, radunate i fanciulli, e quelli che poppano ancora! Esca lo sposo dalla sua camera, e la sposa dalla propria alcova!

17 Fra il portico e l’altare piangano i sacerdoti, ministri dell’Eterno, e dicano: "Risparmia, o Eterno, il tuo popolo, e non esporre la tua eredità all’obbrobrio, ai motteggi delle nazioni! Perché si direbbe fra i popoli: Dov’è il loro Dio?"

18 L’Eterno s’è mosso a gelosia per il suo paese, ed ha avuto pietà del suo popolo.

19 L’Eterno ha risposto, e ha detto al suo popolo: "Ecco, io vi manderò del grano, del vino, dell’olio, e voi ne sarete saziati; e non vi esporrò più all’obbrobrio fra le nazioni.

20 Allontanerò da voi il nemico che viene dal settentrione e lo caccerò in una terra arida e desolata; la sua avanguardia, verso il mare orientale; la sua retroguardia, verso il mare occidentale; la sua infezione, salirà il suo fetore, perché ha fatto cose grandi".
