While today we may think of “curse words” simply as vulgarity, the Bible addresses the idea of cursing as a multitude of forms of speech. Scripture directly tells us, “bless and do not curse them.” Furthermore, when it comes to how we should use our speech as Christians, the Bible puts an emphasis on telling the truth. Is Gambling A Sin

What does the Bible say about gambling? Is gambling a sin according to Scripture?

"But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." - 1 Timothy 6:9-10

Many Christians wonder if gambling is a sin and what the Bible has to say about it. While casinos, lotteries, and other of today's get rich quick games aren't specifically mentioned within the Bible, God has still warned against the temptation. Most often when people gamble it is because they become addicted to the love of money. A simple game can become a sin when it takes over our minds and hearts and leads us down a road of never being satisfied. Study the following Bible verses about gambling and see why God encourages us to stay away from it.

Masturbation in the Bible - Is it a Sin?

Masturbation in the Bible - What does the Bible say about Masturbation?

The Bible does not discuss masturbation explicitly or mention whether or not it is a sin. However, there are some verses which have been interpreted to be referencing masturbation implicitly. The scripture quote most commonly associated with masturbation is the tale of Onan in Genesis 38:9–10. Some explain this passage to mean that “spilling your seed” is a sin. Although in the story, Onan withdrew from performing his duty to provide a successor for his late brother.

Another biblical quote sometimes employed as an indication that masturbation is a sin is Matthew 5:27–30. Jesus speaks against having lustful intentions and then says, “If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.” While there is obviously an association between lustfulness and masturbation, it is doubtful that Jesus was referencing to the particular sin of masturbation in this verse.

Sins of the Father Bible Verses

What does Scripture say about Sins of the Father? There are various Bible verses that reference the topic of "sins of the father." The theme of this phrase and topic mainly relate to whether we are guilty or responsible for the sins of our family, parents or children. While the Bible does say in Deuteronomy 24:16 that "Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers," there are generational consequences of our sin that affect those close to us. Although we are not responsible for the sins of our fathers (parents) or children we must ensure we are not influenced by them to sin likewise and learn from their mistakes.

  • 4 They're a hard case, these people to whom I'm sending you - hardened in their sin. Tell them, 'This is the Message of God, the Master.'

  • 7 "But it won't work that way with the family of Israel. They won't listen to you because they won't listen to me. They are, as I said, a hard case, hardened in their sin.

  • 19 But if you warn the wicked and they keep right on sinning anyway, they'll most certainly die for their sin, but you won't die. You'll have saved your life.

  • 21 But if you warn these righteous people not to sin and they listen to you, they'll live because they took the warning - and again, you'll have saved your life."

  • 4 "Next lie on your left side and place the sin of the family of Israel on yourself. You will bear their sin for as many days as you lie on your side.

  • 5 The number of days you bear their sin will match the number of years of their sin, namely, 390. For 390 days you will bear the sin of the family of Israel.

  • 6 "Then, after you have done this, turn over and lie down on your right side and bear the sin of the family of Judah. Your assignment this time is to lie there for forty days, a day for each year of their sin.

  • 17 Famine conditions. People will look at one another, see nothing but skin and bones, and shake their heads. This is what sin does."

  • 19 "'They throw their money into the gutters. Their hard-earned cash stinks like garbage. They find that it won't buy a thing they either want or need on Judgment Day. They tripped on money and fell into sin.

  • 2 God said, "Son of man, these are the men who draw up blueprints for sin, who think up new programs for evil in this city.

  • 49 "'The sin of your sister Sodom was this: She lived with her daughters in the lap of luxury - proud, gluttonous, and lazy. They ignored the oppressed and the poor.

  • 51 "'And Samaria. Samaria didn't sin half as much as you. You've committed far more obscenities than she ever did. Why, you make your two sisters look good in comparison with what you've done!

  • 4 Every soul - man, woman, child - belongs to me, parent and child alike. You die for your own sin, not another's.

  • 21 "But a wicked person who turns his back on that life of sin and keeps all my statutes, living a just and righteous life, he'll live, really live. He won't die.

  • 24 "The same thing goes for a good person who turns his back on an upright life and starts sinning, plunging into the same vile obscenities that the wicked person practices. Will this person live? I don't keep a list of all the things this person did right, like money in the bank he can draw on. Because of his defection, because he accumulates sin, he'll die.

  • 26 If a good person turns away from his good life and takes up sinning, he'll die for it. He'll die for his own sin.

  • 30 "The upshot is this, Israel: I'll judge each of you according to the way you live. So turn around! Turn your backs on your rebellious living so that sin won't drag you down.

  • 24 "So this is what God, the Master, says: 'Because your sin is now out in the open so everyone can see what you've been doing, you'll be taken captive.

  • 18 By sin after sin after sin, by your corrupt ways of doing business, you defiled your holy places of worship. So I set a fire around and within you. It burned you up. I reduced you to ashes. All anyone sees now when they look for you is ashes, a pitiful mound of ashes.

  • 16 Never again will Israel be tempted to rely on Egypt. All she'll be to Israel is a reminder of old sin. Then Egypt will realize that I am God, the Master.'"
