Deuteronomy 12:4

Ye shall not do so unto the Lord your God.
] Not sacrifice to him on hills and mountains, and under green trees; though the Jews commonly refer this to the destruction of the names of God, and of any thing appertaining to the temple; that though the temples and the altars of the Heathens were to be overthrown, yet not a stone was to be taken from the house of God, or that belonged to it, nor any of his names to be blotted out; so the Targum of Jonathan and Maimonides ^F26, who also observes ^F1, that whoever removes a stone by way of destruction from the altar, or from the temple, or from the court, is to be beaten; so he that burns the holy wood.

2 Destruiréis enteramente todos los lugares donde los gentiles que vosotros heredaréis sirvieron a sus dioses, sobre los montes altos, y sobre los collados, y debajo de todo árbol espeso;

3 y derribaréis sus altares, y quebraréis sus imágenes, y sus bosques consumiréis con fuego; y destruiréis las esculturas de sus dioses, y raeréis el nombre de ellas de aquel lugar.

4 No haréis así al SEÑOR vuestro Dios.

5 Mas el lugar que el SEÑOR vuestro Dios escogiere de todas vuestras tribus, para poner allí su nombre para su habitación, ese buscaréis, y allá iréis.

6 Y allí llevaréis vuestros holocaustos, y vuestros sacrificios, y vuestros diezmos, y la ofrenda de vuestras manos, y vuestras promesas, y vuestras ofrendas voluntarias, y los primerizos de vuestras vacas y de vuestras ovejas;
