John 6:65

65 And He said, "Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto Me, unless it were given unto him by My Father."

John 6:65 Meaning and Commentary

John 6:65

And he said, therefore said I unto you
Referring to ( John 6:44 ) , where the substance of what is here said, is there delivered; though the Ethiopic version reads, therefore I say unto you, what follows:

that no man can come to me, except it be given him of my Father;
which is the same, as to be drawn by the Father; for faith in Christ is the gift of God, and coming to him, is owing to efficacious grace, and is not the produce of man's power and freewill; (See Gill on John 6:44).

John 6:65 In-Context

63 It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing. The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you that believe not." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who believed not and who should betray Him.
65 And He said, "Therefore said I unto you that no man can come unto Me, unless it were given unto him by My Father."
66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked no more with Him.
67 Then Jesus said unto the twelve, "Will ye also go away?"
