Romans 4:23 Meaning and Commentary

Romans 4:23

Now it was not written for his sake alone
This was not left on the sacred records, ( Genesis 15:6 ) ,

that it was imputed to him;
purely on his account, merely for his sake, as an encomium of his faith, and an honourable testimony to it, and for the encouragement of it; though this was doing him a very great honour, and was one design of it.

Romans 4:23 In-Context

21 and being fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able also to perform.
22 And therefore "it was imputed to him for righteousness."
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,
24 but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed if we believe in Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification.
