2 Chronicles 18:2 Meaning and Commentary

2 Chronicles 18:2

And after certain years
Two years, according to the Syriac and Arabic versions, or in the third year after the affinity was contracted, see ( 1 Kings 22:2 ) ,

he went down to Ahab to Samaria;
to pay him a visit upon the alliance, civil and matrimonial, contracted between them:

and Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people
that he had with him;
entertained him and his retinue in a very grand and liberal manner:

and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead;
from hence, to the end of the chapter, it is the same with ( 1 Kings 22:4-37 ) . (See Gill on 1 Kings 22:4). (See Gill on 1 Kings 22:5). (See Gill on 1 Kings 22:6). (See Gill on 1 Kings 22:7). 2 Chronicles 18:2 In-Context

1 Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.
2 After certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up [with him] to Ramoth-gilead.
3 Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead? He answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and [we will be] with you in the war.
4 Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Please inquire first for the word of Yahweh.
5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? They said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.
