James 2:9

Listen to James 2:9
9 But if ye take persons, ye work sin, and be reproved of the law, as trespassers [as transgressors].

James 2:9 Meaning and Commentary

James 2:9

But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin,
&c] This is not doing well, but is a transgression of the law, as every sin is; hence it follows,

and are convinced of the law as transgressors;
which carries on a formal process against such persons; it accuses them of sin, and charges them with it; it proves it upon them, and convicts them of it; it pronounces them guilty, and curses them for it; and passes the sentence of condemnation and death upon them; wherefore care should be taken not to commit this sin, and so fall under the convictions and reproofs of the law.

James 2:9 In-Context

7 Whether they blaspheme not the good name, that is called to help on you [that is in-called of you]?
8 Nevertheless if ye perform the king's law, by scriptures [+after scriptures/by scripture], Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.
9 But if ye take persons, ye work sin, and be reproved of the law, as trespassers [as transgressors].
10 And whoever keepeth all the law, but offendeth in one [Forsooth whoever shall keep all the law, soothly offend in one], he is made guilty of all.
11 For he that said, Thou shalt do no lechery [Thou shalt not do lechery], said also, Thou shalt not slay; that if thou doest no lechery, but thou slayest, thou art made [a] trespasser of the law.
