23 And I shall slay his enemies from his face; and I shall turn into flight them that hate him. (And I shall kill all his enemies before his face; and I shall turn to flight, or make to flee, those who hate him.)

Psalm 89:23 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 89:23

And I will beat down his foes before his face
In Judea, and in the Gentile world; more especially in Rome Pagan, and Rome Papal; in the most public manner, before his Gospel, and the ministry of it by his servants; and they shall either submit unto it, or be broken to pieces as a potter's vessel; for he must reign till all enemies are put under his feet, ( 1 Corinthians 15:25 1 Corinthians 15:26 ) ,

and plague them that hate him;
that would not have him to reign over them, the unbelieving Jews, and all the followers of antichrist; who are either plagued with the judgments of God here, or with everlasting punishment hereafter, with which they will be tormented for ever and ever, ( Luke 19:14 Luke 19:27 ) ( Revelation 16:8-11 ) ( Revelation 14:10 Revelation 14:11 ) or "strike" ^F4 them with a rod of iron, with his wrath and vengeance; strike them down to the ground, and to the lowest hell.

22 The enemy shall nothing profit in him (The enemy shall not gain any advantage over him); and the son of wickedness shall not lay to/shall not put to, for to harm him.

25 And I shall set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in floods. (And I shall extend his power unto the Mediterranean Sea; and his right hand unto the Euphrates River.)
