It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear,1 as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.2
Will not the day of the LORD be darkness,3 not light-- pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?4
"I hate,5 I despise your religious feasts;6 I cannot stand your assemblies.7
Even though you bring me burnt offerings8 and grain offerings, I will not accept them.910 Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them.1112
Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.13
But let justice14 roll on like a river, righteousness15 like a never-failing stream!16
"Did you bring me sacrifices17 and offerings forty years18 in the desert, O house of Israel?
You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols,19 the star of your god-- which you made for yourselves.
Therefore I will send you into exile20 beyond Damascus," says the LORD, whose name is God Almighty.21
