The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol1 of Beth Aven.a2 Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests,3 those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.46
It will be carried to Assyria5 as tribute6 for the great king.7 Ephraim will be disgraced;8 Israel will be ashamed9 of its wooden idols.b
