Matthew 6:16-18

Listen to Matthew 6:16-18

How to Fast

16 "Whenever you fast, don't be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive [a] so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They've got their reward!
17 But when you fast, put oil on your head, and wash your face,
18 so that you don't show your fasting to people but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. [b]

What is Fasting Part 1
What is Fasting Part 1
Jeff Johnson

Food is treasured in this nation of ours.   Not only do we insist on our food prepared just right, but we look at the presentation, and we want it fast and easy. To ask us to give it up would be quite a sacrifice... wouldn’t it?  Here on Sound Doctrine, we give attention to the practice of fasting - denying our physical appetite to concentrate on our spiritual appetite.  In the sixth chapter of Matthew, pastor Jeff Johnson has been dealing with three basic disciplines of the believer. Today we’ll set out to answer what is fasting?
