11 Ma essi ricusarono di attendere, e porsero una spalla ritrosa, ed aggravarono le loro orecchie, per non ascoltare;

Zechariah 7:11

But they refused to hearken
. That is, the Jews, before the captivity, refusal to give heed to the above exhortations, and obey the voice of God in them: and pulled away the shoulder;
from serving the Lord, and supporting his interest: or "they gave", or presented, "a rebellious shoulder" {f}; a refractory one, that slides back, like a backsliding or refractory heifer, that will not admit of the yoke, ( Hosea 4:16 ) so these could not bear the yoke of the law, nor the burden of duty; nor suffer the words of exhortation, or receive the admonitions given them: and stopped their ears, that they should not hear;
like the deaf adder, ( Psalms 58:4 Psalms 58:5 ) they would not hear, and pretended they could not; which was an instance of contempt to the speakers.

9 Così disse già il Signor degli eserciti: Fate fedel giudicio, ed usate benignità, e pietà, ciascuno inverso il suo fratello.

10 E non oppressate la vedova, nè l’orfano, nè il forestiere nè il povero; e non macchinate nel vostro cuore male alcuno l’un contro all’altro.

11 Ma essi ricusarono di attendere, e porsero una spalla ritrosa, ed aggravarono le loro orecchie, per non ascoltare;

12 e rendettero il cuor loro simile ad un diamante, per non ascoltar la Legge, nè le parole che il Signor degli eserciti mandava a dir loro per lo suo Spirito, per lo ministerio de’ profeti de’ tempi passati; laonde vi è stata grande indegnazione da parte del Signor degli eserciti.

13 Ed è avvenuto che, come quando egli chiamava, essi non ascoltarono; così, quando hanno gridato, io non li ho ascoltati, ha detto il Signor degli eserciti.
